Competition in the Eskrima

 

During a competition match, Eskrimadors are “sweating blood” and engaged in fierce fighting, good sportsmanship and commeradary. This spirit are whatprevails throughout Eskrima tournaments. Lightning-fast action, spectacular moves, loud strikesand cries, cheerful support, or sometimes stressful silence and lots & lots of excitement are what have come to represent what every spectator will have the chance to experience and be a part of when visiting the World Championship.

– TRADITIONAL OR OPEN FORMS CALLED SAYAW/ANYO

Forms are scored by judges and similar to what you see in action films today. Traditional or Open anyo/sayaw are a serious of movements or kata preformed in sequence emphasizing flow, power, application and the combative nature of Eskrima.  (Child, male, female, team)

– FULL CONTACT FIGHT WITH SINGLE OR DOUBLE STICKS

The combatants use live or rattan sticks while wearing protective gear that protects the body from head to mid thigh. There are three rounds in a match and the fighting is continuous without any pauses. It requires full strength, lightning-fast attacks, speed, stamina and defense.  (Child, female, male, team weight categories, single and double sticks)

– FULL CONTACT FIGHT WITH THE LONG STICK

This is one of the toughest and most skillful parts of the tournament where the contenters are fighting with 150cm long sticks.This is a new type of competition and Hungary is the first country after the Philippines where fighters can place for an International Championship title.(Female, Male, two weight categories)

– FIRST-HIT FIGHT WITH THE STICK

This type of match is fought with minimal protective gear using a “padded” or “soft” sticks. The first to hit the opponent with the stick scores the point. (child, female, male, senior, several weight categories)

– FIRST-HIT FIGHT WITH THE KNIFE

Similar to the stick the first to hit the opponent with the knife is to score.(child, female, male, senior, several weight categories)
